Te Parirau o Tainui Waka

Our name Te Parirau o Tainui Waka – The Wings of Tainui Waka, refers to the physical area that our cluster covers – the outlying townships of Tainui: Cambridge, Matamata, Morrinsville, Putaruru, Huntly, Ngaruawahia, Te Kauwhata, Tokoroa.

As Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB), we serve as navigators, working collaboratively alongside mokopuna, kaiako (teachers), whānau (families), and other agencies through challenging times toward mutually agreed goals. The wings (Nga parirau) symbolise our dual role: nurturing while challenging, comforting while collaborating, and ultimately reaching our destination of safety, achievement, and hope.

Our name is our unwritten pledge to do the best we can in our areas of Tainui serving our schools, whānau and mokopuna to succeed in any way possible.

Our Logo

Te Parirau means the wings which represent the korotangi, the navigator and RTLB are navigators too.

If you have ever paddled in a canoe or waka you will know that everyone needs to row in unison to avoid going around in circles. If rowing long distances, some rowers need to rest while others keep rowing. Tōkihi Hi! Tōkihi Hi! Tōkihi Hi! (tōkihi - to dart along, haul, or thrust lengthwise). The kaihautu (caller) or rangatira needs to give clear directions to increase or decrease the pace of the rowers.

In 2017 the RTLB Team unanimously selected this cluster logo and in doing so, they breathed life into their name. Tihei mauri ora, which means hark, the breath of life, Te Parirau o Tainui-Waka.

The colours red, black and white represent everyone working as one

Kia hoetahi tatou - let us all row together.

We bless the name of our logo “E te Atua kaha rawa kia hā iho mai ōu manaakitanga ki runga i te ingoa Te Parirau o Tainui Waka” Lord bless the name of our logo.

(Kaumatua: Hono Huirama - May 2017)
