Purpose of He Pikorua

He Pikorua is the practice framework for Ministry and RTLB learning support practitioners

Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB)

Experienced and trained support

Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) are experienced teachers trained to support teachers to meet the needs of students whose achievement in learning and behaviour is not fully being realised.

Within the scope of RTLB practice is building teacher and school inclusive practice capability to find solutions that support years 0-10 students overcome substantial barriers to learning.

He Pikorua underpins our practices so we can work together within the Learning Support Delivery Model to provide a coherent, evidence-based approach.

It guides us to focus less on services and criteria, and more on joining up services to support mokopuna and the adults around them in ways that build on their strengths.

Voice, choice and agency

Mokopuna, whānau and educator voices are critical to enabling progress and achievement. We work in partnership with mokopuna and the people closest to them. Mokopuna are supported to engage and learn when they have maximum opportunities to participate, contribute, respond, and share.
